My name is Jie Lidi. Today, my topic is: “Confidence”. As we all know, failure is the mother of success. But What I want to say is that success is the child of confidence. Without confidence, things can becom#e negative and uncom#fortable. I remember, during an English class, I wanted to make a sentence using the word "listen". I should have said: "I listen to the Voice of America" but I was too nervous and said "I listen to the Noise of America". Everybody in the class laughed. Since then I wanted to train myself to be confident. Now, confidence makes me brave and courageous. Take this speech for example. Thank you very much for choosing to come in such a cold night.Today my topic is about choice and process.A research shows that a man has to make 73 choices one day.With so many choices one day, people easily get so confused and afraid of making wrong choice that they hesitate and finally miss the true part of life. In my opinion, the following part is of much more importance than the choice. There is no absolute right or wrong choice but wonderful or boring life, which the process makes the difference. Life is a box of chocolate,you never know what you will get. Forrest Gump made no decision by and for himself but he accomplished great success with his strong will in the process. The process is not the road itself but the attitudes and feelings ,the caution, courage and persistance we have as we encounter new experience and unexpected obstacles. Take myself as an example, I changed my major when I became a postgraduate. After the choice,days have been harsh for me.I cannot understand the new lessons at all. For they are closely related to mathmatics which I learned nothing about before. However wuth the belief that this is the great chance for me to experience new ideas and challenge myself,I persisted. I asked for help from every channel and reorgonized my life. Gradually I could understand some parts and even found maths interesting.Moreover, I learned to act instead of complaining. In retrospect,the choice left no trace in my mind but the happiness and bitterness of the past four months becomes an unforgetable experience in my life.
NO matter what the choice is, enjoy the process. In the process, your potential will be inspired and new discoveries,improvement and progress will come to you. These are the most beautiful sceneries and only on the way can you see it.These make your life colorful.

Good afternoon, everybody. I just want to say a few words about the landmark vote that the House of Representatives is poised to(隨時(shí)準(zhǔn)備著) take today -- a vote that can bring us one step closer to making real the promise of quality, affordable(支付得起) health care for the American people.
For the better part of a year now, members of the House and the Senate have been working diligently(勤奮地) and constructively to craft legislation that will benefit millions of American families and millions of American businesses who urgently need it. For the first time ever, they've passed bills through every single committee responsible for reform. They've brought us closer than we have ever been to passing health insurance reform on behalf of the American people.
Now is the time to finish the job. The bill that the House has produced will provide stability and security for Americans who have insurance; quality, affordable options for those who don't; and lower costs for American families and American businesses. And as I've insisted from the beginning, it is a bill that is fully paid for and will actually reduce our long-term federal deficit(赤字，不足).
This bill is change that the American people urgently need. Don't just take my word for it. Consider the national groups who've come out in support of this bill on behalf of their members: The Consumers Union supports it because it will create -- and I quote -- "a more secure, affordable health care system for the American people."
The American Medical Association and the American Nurses Association support it on behalf of doctors and nurses and medical professionals who know firsthand what's broken in our current system, and who see what happens when their patients can't get the care they need because of insurance industry bureaucracies(官僚政治).
The National Farmers Union supports this bill because it will control costs for farmers and ranchers(牧場(chǎng)主), and address the unique challenges rural Americans face when it comes to receiving quality care.
And the AARP supports it because it will achieve the goal for which the AARP has been fighting for decades -- reducing the cost of health care, expanding coverage for America's seniors, and strengthening Medicare for the long haul.
Now, no bill can ever contain everything that everybody wants, or please every constituency(選區(qū)) and every district. That's an impossible task. But what is possible, what's in our grasp right now is the chance to prevent a future where every day 14,000 Americans continue to lose their health insurance, and every year 18,000 Americans die because they don't have it; a future where crushing costs keep small businesses from succeeding and big businesses from competing in the global economy; a future where countless dreams are deferred or scaled back because of a broken system we could have fixed when we had the chance.
What we can do right now is choose a better future and pass a bill that brings us to the very cusp(尖頭，尖端) of building what so many generations of Americans have sought to build -- a better health care system for this country.
Millions of Americans are watching right now. Their families and their businesses are counting on us. After all, this is why they sent us here, to finally confront the challenges that Washington had been putting off for decades -- to make their lives better, to leave this country stronger than we found it.
I just came from the Hill where I talked to the members of Congress there, and I reminded them that opportunities like this come around maybe once in a generation. Most public servants pass through their entire careers without a chance to make as important a difference in the lives of their constituents and the life of this country. This is their moment, this is our moment, to live up to the trust that the American people have placed in us -- even when it's hard; especially when it's hard. This is our moment to deliver.
I urge members of Congress to rise to this moment. Answer the call of history, and vote yes for health insurance reform for America.

慢慢進(jìn)入小學(xué)，課程越來(lái)越深，知識(shí)越來(lái)越多。會(huì)感受到壓力�，F(xiàn)在我有一個(gè)夢(mèng)想。我希望我沒(méi)有；我每天沒(méi)有很多作業(yè)要做。玩的有點(diǎn)剝奪，而我們40%的日子都禁錮在教室里，很多時(shí)間都在學(xué)習(xí)。但是在學(xué)習(xí)面前，是一種模糊的知識(shí)。俗話說(shuō)，一種罕見(jiàn)的困惑。對(duì)事物的理解，從封建主義到資本主義，越大越覺(jué)得自己的'觀點(diǎn)是正確的。每天放學(xué)回家后忙了一天一夜的課，他又困又累，吃不到深夜吃的食物。這樣的生活很單調(diào)，可能有時(shí)候會(huì)想念我的很多小學(xué)同學(xué)，有時(shí)候會(huì)帶著一節(jié)課或者一副朦朧的睡相。討厭死板的校服，我從來(lái)不到處穿。周六，周日；時(shí)間很短，孩子很想磨煉，慢慢了解生活；太難了，努力吧，夢(mèng)想好了，我會(huì)努力讓每個(gè)人都生活起來(lái)，早起晚睡，把握住自己，不再松懈。我也想為他們的夢(mèng)想而奮斗。

I can never forget the summer in 1996. I went through an extremity ofdespair due to my failure in the National College Entrance Examination. Itseemed that my dream of being a university student would never come true. Oneevening my father came and told me the story of Steven Callahan, who wascrossing the Atlantic alone in his sailboat when it struck something and sank.It was a miracle that he survived and was found 76 days later(the longest anyonehas survived a shipwreck on a life raft alone). Later in his narrative he wrotethese sentences “I tell myself I can handle it .Compared to what others havebeen through I’m fortunate”.
Hearing these sentences I felt something important struck me. I belived mylife would mot be that bad and it was proved to be true. Later during my studyin the university I always told myself “I can handle it” when my own goalsseemed far off or when my problems seemed too overwhelming and every time I saidit ,I always came back to my senses.
Now I work as an English teacher in a middle school. Whenever my studentscomplain about their difficulties in study or want to give up, I will tell thesame story of Callahan to them. I just want to make them believe they can handletheir difficulties because their circumstances are only bad compared tosomething better. But others have been through much worse. Then they will buildup fortitude.
So here, coming to us from the extreme edge of survival, are words that cangive us strength. Whatever you’re going through, tell yourself you can handleit. Compared to what others have been through, you’re fortunate. Tell this toyourself over and over, and it will help you get through the rough spots withlittle more fortitude.

聽(tīng)了這些話，我被深深地震撼了，我相信我的生活不會(huì)太差而事實(shí)也證明了這一點(diǎn)，后來(lái)我得到了進(jìn)入大學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)的機(jī)會(huì)，在大學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)期間，當(dāng)我覺(jué)得自己的目標(biāo)似乎遙不可及或者我遇到了似乎無(wú)法解決的問(wèn)題時(shí)，我就勉勵(lì)自己說(shuō)“我能挺過(guò)去的”而每每念及這句話，我總能有所醒悟。
現(xiàn)在我在一所中學(xué)教英語(yǔ)，每當(dāng)學(xué)生們報(bào)怨學(xué)習(xí)的困難或是想放棄時(shí)，我就給他們講卡拉漢的故事，我就是想讓他們相信他們可以從困難中挺過(guò)去的，因?yàn)槔Ь扯际窍鄬?duì)而言的，有些人比我們更不幸，然后他們就會(huì)在自己心中建立起永不放棄的信念。
從這個(gè)大難不死的故事中，我們學(xué)到了能給予我們勇氣與力量的話語(yǔ)，無(wú)論你遭遇了什么，都要對(duì)你自己說(shuō)：一定能挺過(guò)去的。與其他人的不幸相比，你已經(jīng)算是很幸運(yùn)了，要一遍一遍地用此話鼓勵(lì)自己，這個(gè)信念會(huì)使你更有信心渡過(guò)難關(guān)。
