英語(yǔ)六級(jí)作文必背范文1
The famous saying “The greatest use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it” is rather thoughtprovoking and tells us the real meaning of life.
In my view, there are good reasons to undertake meaningful things that exert positive and profound influence on the society, such as protecting the environment, helping vulnerable groups as well as promoting education. To illustrate, Nelson Mandela never wavered in his fight against apartheid and for a new South Africa. His life is an inspiration to everyone in South Africa and throughout the world. Though limited, his life is worth living, and its influence definitely lasts longer than itself. Likewise, a young person who aspires to be a great writer chooses to spend all his free time on reading literary works or refining his own writings. Without aspirations, he may simply end up spending all his spare time surfing online or playing Internet games.
In brief, a meaningful life serves to motivate and guide us in our daily lives. It provides us with the focus and direction that enable us to work towards a special goal.

There are some individuals who argue that, compared to the environment protection, the top priority is supposed to given to economic development. They deem that environmental problems are inevitable and unavoidable in the process of economic development. They are only the by products of economic development, which can be handled later when we have the time and money.
However, other individuals hold different opinions that(或者:other holders of the opposite opinions argue that ) environment protection should be attached more importance than economic development in that present serious environmental problems will threaten the health of the residents and hinder the advance of the economy.
As far as I am concerned, environmental protection and economic development can coexist in parallel and can stay in harmony. Our ultimate aim in economic development is to provide a comfortable and happy life for our people. What is the point of economic development if we achieve it at the cost of our environment? There has been much evidence to prove that a balance between the two helps more rapid and continuous development of the society.

As is symbolically demonstrated in the drawing, a young man is sitting in his living room. Sitting on a chair in front of a table, he is using a computer to have access to the Internet. Regretfully he says, “I just feel unfortunate to live in a world with so much misleading information.”
Since most of the messages are put up on the Internet without being examined, information explodes in amount and size, which makes fake or false information get easy access to people's eyes. As a consequence, in many cases, what we get from the Internet, TV or billboards is often misleading, and it would definitely influence our judgment, obstruct our efforts to acquire knowledge and constrain our creativity.
However, it is unfair to say that information explosion is a backward step in human civilization; the point is the way we choose it and use it. The root for today's embarrassing situation of information industry is the faulty management and the lack of advanced technologies. Hence, what we can do now is not to complain but to improve the information management system by technical means in an attempt to really create an era of knowledge explosion.

On Volunteer
In recent years, the volunteering spirit has spread widely among the public, especially among youngsters. From Olympic Games to urban communities, many people are seen to offer free help.
Volunteering is of tremendous benefit to those in need. For example, hundreds of thousands of volunteers played an active role in the recent quake-hit Yushu area: they offered medical and psychological aid to the victims in the relief work. On the other hand, volunteering is beneficial to the volunteers themselves too. Involved in volunteering activities, people are exposed to new circumstancesj and they can learn how to work well in a team and how to improve their interpersonal skills, all of which are critical for their career development.
In my view, we should all join in volunteering work as long as we have spare time. That doesn't necessarily mean that we all volunteer in regions struck by natural disasters. There are many people eise who need our help, . the old or the sick in the near nursing home. Little by EittJe, we are sure to help make the world better.

Would you be willing to have a doctor who only has the textbook knowledge of operations to operate on you? Your answer to this is obviously a resounding “No!” In order to be of real value, knowledge gained from books must always be complemented by knowledge gained from actual experience.
For me engaging in an activity in person and having the first-hand experience leaves a much deeper and lasting impression than what one can get simply from reading or listening. If I read about how to write an essay or listened to someone talking about writing an essay, I still wouldn't feel like knowing how to write an essay until writing one myself. The same can be said for other skills, for example, sports. A person can know all the rules of football, associated skills and strategies, but until that person does some ball-kicking in a field, the theory remains useless.
To sum up, compared to theoretical knowledge, practical skills are certainly more significant. Just as the British churchman Thomas Fuller put it, “Knowledge is a treasure, but practice is the key to it.”

There goes a wise saying, “Happiness is not the absence of problems, but the ability to deal with them.” I couldn't agree more with it, for problem-solving ability, instead of favorable circumstances, is the key to happiness.
There is little correlation between favorable circumstances and happiness. The absence of problems, which is actually impossible in our lives as long we have got something to pursue, is beyond doubt a lucky circumstance for one to notch up success and find happiness. But in the meantime, it also means that one encounters no challenge and thus achieves little happiness, for the bigger a challenge, the greater happiness in overcoming it. Deep happiness only comes after you have overcome difficult problems. For instance, people who stop at the foot of a mountain can never experience the happiness of those who conquer the mountain top.
Happiness is only a by-product of success in dealing with problems. We should bear in mind that problems are never absent and what we can do is to develop our ability to solve them. The higher our ability to combat problems, the greater happiness we are likely to experience.

A smile is the shortest distance between two people Mark Twain once said, The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is smile will unconsciously pull short distance between hearts, which is the charm of a smile. So never stop smiling, even when you are sad, for someone might fall in love with your smile.
Undoubtedly, it is smile that keeps us continually shortening the distance among people. When you fall down, a smile from others will bring you the power to stand up. Besides, smile is a name card which will make the people around you feel comfortable and pave the way for you to make good friends. When you feel disappointed with the life and get heartbroken with the love, just smile, its a good medicine for your hurt soul. Were there no smile, never would we taste a happy and healthy life.
Consequently, from what has been discussed above, it can be safely concluded that a smile is beneficial for us bridge gaps of social interaction and sweep disorders of human communication.

Nowadays, with the quickening pace of urban life and ever-increasing work pressure, much emphasis has been put on innovation. Obviously, only through innovation can we make progress. Conservatism means regression.
Utmost importance should be attached to innovation and creativity. To begin with, an attitude of innovation can be said to be the propelling force for the development of science. Think of all the scientific experiment and all the laboratory tests before a new medicine or vaccine is discovered. In addition, innovation also contributes to the success of many businesses. For instance, I personally worked for an Internet company—only after four years and four different tries of varying business models did it finally succeed, and became one of the largest Internet companies.
To sum up, in any field of endeavor, it is necessary to first put great emphasis on innovation before one can finally reach success. It seems as if life is testing our innovation and creativity to see if we really are dedicated to our vision, before we can finally be rewarded with success.

There is a saying that “Good habits result from resisting temptation”, to which I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, lacking determined will and social experience, young people frequently fall into the trap of temptations such as Internet games, smoking, drinking, and so on.
In a bid to form good habits, one needs a strong will and dogged perseverance to resist temptation. The desirable habit of reading classic works of literature on a regular basis is a case in point. In order to get into the habit, you have to spend less time on your favorite Internet games or fascinating mobile phones. Likewise, the good habit of doing exercises every day means repeatedly dragging oneself away from the TV series and cozy couch.
As has been mentioned above, a wise mind and determined will should be gradually cultivated so that young people can resist various temptations and acquire endearing habits. After all, old habits die hard. Just as Oscar Wilde put it, “I can resist everything except temptation.”

I prefer to attend college abroad rather than at home in that living alone in a foreign country will offer overseas students a greater opportunity to broaden their horizons, cultivate their independence and improve their interpersonal skills.
To start with, living and studying abroad will give one a wider perspective on the world. Overseas students can meet their peers from different countries and regions and be exposed to various ideas and values. This would help them understand the diversity of our society and inevitably see the world in a new light. In addition, overseas experience, frustrating and painful as it may be, is helpful. Overseas students often experience great difficulty—difficulty in fitting into a new culture and dealing with all problems alone. Yet, the difficulty, coupled with the suffering caused by culture shock, is a rewarding experience for promoting one's independence and developing interpersonal skills.
In conclusion, despite some obvious disadvantages, attending college abroad is definitely better for one's spiritual growth and future life. Therefore, I would like to study overseas if I have a choice.

In the portrayal above are two people staying in a restaurant. Sitting at a table, each of them is having a glass of drink. The man is speaking to the woman seriously, “I love reading. I read about 3 hours a day. My favorite book is Facebook.”
The purpose of the caricature is to show us that due attention has to be paid to the impact of social network websites on reading. On the one hand, a good many people admit that they are too much addicted to social network websites to have enough time for reading books. Once indulged in the virtual world, people feel reluctant to read extensively or to concentrate on real life. On the other hand, reading extensively can offer us companionship, experience and instruction. Firstly, it can increase our contentment when we are cheerful and happy, and lessen our pain when we are sad or lonely. Secondly, it can increase our intellectual ability, broaden our horizons and make us wise.
Though with the advent of the Internet, books are no longer read as extensively as they once were, nothing can replace the role that reading extensively plays in our lives.
