The kitchen is my favorite room in a house, because it is where families gather. To me, that is the most important thing. So many of the memories people have of growing up revolve around the kitchen. My childhood memories concern the kitchens in my grandparents ‘homes.
My mother’s family lived in a row house in the city. The rooms were all small, and that included the kitchen. In the summertime, when we’d visit, the back door of the house would be left open. People would be sitting on the back porch and in the kitchen, talking and laughing, while my grandmother made dinner. There was no air-conditioning, but I don’t ever remember feeling too hot. There was always a breeze coming through, along with the sounds of traffic and kids playing ball in the street.
My father’s family liver on a farm in the country, and their house had a huge kitchen with windows on three sides. It seems like the windows were always open and the curtains blowing with the breeze. The main door to the house was almost never used. Everyone came in through the kitchen, and sat at the big table in the middle of the room. When dinner was being prepared, all the women would bustle around, while the men sat at the table talking about farm prices. Sometimes my grandmother wouldn’t even sit down during dinner, but would be refilling bowls of food and people’s glasses. From outside ,we could hear the cows in the field near the house.
These two kitchens are the background for some of my happiest memories. From the beginning of time, human beings have gathered together near the fire where the food was being prepared. I hope that never changes.

The above bar chart shows the results of a report concerning the ideal career standards of most university students. Based on the data offered, steadiness, high salary and comfortable environment are highly acclaimed by students. What is reflected in the chart is most thought-provoking and worth discussing among the general public for the time being.
The contributing factors responsible for this phenomenon can be summarized as follows. To begin with, the spirit of challenge is missing among most university students. As is indicated in the chart above, the majority of students regard steadiness as their top ideal career standard. The very fact shows that now most university students lack the confidence and courage to face hardships and difficulties in terms of work. Whats more, most students are money-oriented and self-centered. Therefore, high income and comfortable environment are viewed as the most important factors in terms of their standards, which indicates most people lack the spirit of serving the people and rewarding the society. In short, the employment ideal of university students needs to be adjusted.
In my view, some necessary measures should be taken to establish new ideal occupation standards among university students. For one thing, a widespread education campaign must be launched to popularize correct employment concepts. For another, a healthy social environment should be created so as to guide the development of students mind. Only in these ways can university students find their ideal jobs in our harmonious society.
I think high school students should be allowed to choose some of the subjects they study. However, the basic subjects, like mathematics, literature, and science, should be mandatory for all students.
When I was in high school, we were allowed to choose three electives each semester. Electives were subjects that weren’t part of the basic curriculum. They included things like music, journalism, art, and various kinds of team sports. Choosing some of these subjects to study gave me a chance to experiment. I was able to get a head start on what I was going to study in college.
However, college preparation shouldn’t be the main factor. I think all students should be allowed to take a certain number of courses just because they’re interested in them. For many students, high school is the last chance to learn about things they’re interested in. Maybe once they have a job there won’t be time for studying.
Of course, it’s also important that students study certain basic subjects. If I’d had a choice, I know I wouldn’t have studied mathematics or science. I wasn’t very interested in them. However, once I was in class, I found myself getting interested. I wouldn’t have known this if I’d been given the choice, because I would have chosen not to take the courses.
High school students aren’t always the best judges of what they’ll find useful in the years ahead. They need the guidance of experts in the field of education. However, they also need some freedom to follow their curiosity and individual interests. They should be given the freedom to choose some courses, while being required to take others.

Most kids love to play sports. It’s important to them, but for the majority, it’s just one type of activity out of many that they do. For a small number of kids, though, a sport becomes their whole life. They spend almost all their time and energy practicing. This has both advantages and disadvantages.
Sports are good for young children in many ways. Kids who enjoy sports are likely to have better health. They develop good habits of daily exercise that will keep them healthy as adults, too. Today, many children and adults are overweight, but those who love sports stay in shape. Plus, by developing their physical abilities, they will learn how to work hard towards a goal. Their achievements in sports will make them feel good about themselves. They’ll also make friends and learn teamwork. Sports, whether a little or a lot, can have positive effects.
We admire the talent and dedication of young athletes, but we also wonder if they’re losing something. Their focus is very narrow. If they devote most of their time to sports, are they neglecting schoolwork? What about other interests? Children should try out many different activities. In addition, many young athletes are pressured by parents or coaches to succeed. Kids whose drive comes from inside usually do okay, but others can be unhappy and have health and emotional problems. So sports, like anything else in excess, can have negative effect too.
When I was young, I liked books and hated sports. I saw other people who loved sports and hated school. Now that I’m older, I’ve found a better balance. People have to figure out what’s right for them. Is there such a thing as too much sports? There is no right answer, because there is no “right amount.” Everyone is different.
This is quite an extraordinary and meaningful picture. The old grandma, when alive, was fed poorly with a bowl of rice for every meal. In contrast, after her death, there is a memorial tablet set up for her, in front of which is a table of delicacies as tributes. Apparently, the grandma’s children merely want to show off how well they treat their mother while they were actually ingrates.
Ridiculous as it is, the phenomenon is not rare in today’s society. For one thing, enormous economic development brings not only wealth, but also the public obsession for material possessions, individual gain and loss which undermines the once sacred bond between parents and children. For another, people seem to be fond of boasting off how they abide by traditions through holding grand funerals for their parents. As a matter of fact, some even compete about the extravagance of the event.
I contend that those who practice as the picture reveals miss the essence and deep values of our traditions. Filial piety should not be expressed via superficial “performance”, but via children’s genuine care and love for their parents. Thinking about how parents have taken care of us when we were babies in cradles, we should realize that they all need due attention when aging.

I’d rather have the university assign a roommate to share a room with me. As far as I’m concerned, this is part of the university experience. Students should meet new people and be open to new experiences. I like leaving this up to chance.
Actually, even though the university will choose, it’s not totally a matter of chance. We all filled out information sheets. The school knows what we’re majoring in, what our interests are, and our study habits and our goals. I think they’re probably very good at matching roommates using this information. They’ve had a lot of practice. Besides, if a mistake is made, I can change my room assignment next semester.
If I did want to choose my own roommate, I’d first pick some candidates from the list supplied by the university. Then I’d write to them and they’d write back. Through our letters, we’d find out if we shared common interests, such as sports or movies. More importantly, we’d find out if we like doing the same things in our free time. Because my investigation, I’d probably get someone compatible with me. It’s a lot of work to go through, though. Besides, the process of finding similar interests isn’t all that different from what the university does.
Trying to predict whom I’m going to get along with is not a science. I might choose someone who sounds just like me and still find that the two of us just don’t get along as roommates. Besides, I think it would be boring to room with somebody who’s just the same as me. I’d rather be with someone who has different interests and likes to do different things. Maybe I’d even get a roommate from another culture. After all, one of the reasons I’m going to the university is to be exposed to a lot of new experiences. So, I’d rather have the university choose my roommate for me.
Where do we come from? How did the universe begin?why is the universe the way it is? How will it end?
Sll my life, i have been fascinated by the big questions that face us, and have tried to find scientific answers to them. If, like me, you have looked at the stars, and tried to make sense of what you see, you too have started to wonder what makes the universe eist. The questions are clear, and deceptively simple. But the answers have always seemed well beyond our reach. until now.
The ideas which had grown over two thousand years of observation have had to be radically revised. In less than a hundred years, we have found a new way to think of ourselves. From sitting at the center of the universe, we now find ourselves orbiting an average-sized sun, which is just one of millions of stars in our own milky way galay. And our galay itself is just one of billions of galaies, in a universe that is infinite and epanding. But this is far from the end of a long history of inquiry.Huge questions remain to be answered, before we can hope to have a complete picture of the universe we live in.
I want you to share my ecitement at the discoveries, past and present, which have revolutionized the way we think. From the big bang to black holes, from dark matter to a possible big crunch, our image of the universe today is full of strange sounding ideas, and remarkable truths. The story of how we arrived at this picture is the story of learning to understand what we see.

In most cases, one should never judge a person by external appearances. Sometimes when I walk down the street at night, I avoid people who are acting tough and loud, but in general, I prefer to reserve judgment until I get to know someone. Judging someone by external appearance can be deceptive. Judgments based on external appearances prevent you from getting to know a person reinforce stereotypes, and are superficial and limiting.
In high school, I stayed away from students who were called the "bad students" because they dressed a certain way. I wanted nothing to do with them. I later had the chance to meet one of these "bad students" because of our mothers, we started talking and I realized that we had a lot in common. My impression of him was very different once I got to know him.
If you form an opinion of someone based on stereotypes, you risk never getting to know someone who is different. You may are be missing out on an opportunity to make a good friend. In addition, you are reinforcing that stereotype by believing it without given the person a chance. If you take the time to get to know the person, you might become friends.
Judging people by external appearance is superficial and often unfair. After all, you dont know what circumstances the person might be facing or who the person really is. Perhaps the person comes from a less fortunate family than you and cannot afford the kind of stylish clothes your friends wear. However, that does not mean the person is less intelligent or interesting than you are.
People should not be naive about new people they meet, but should take time to get to know them. External appearance often does not tell us anything about a person. Judging someone by their appearance is misleading, reinforces stereotypes, and is limiting. Doing so could prevent you from making a true friend.

How concise but thought-provoking the picture is! What is clearly depicted in the picture is that a boy, sitting in front of a computer, is selecting courses through the system of selecting courses, who takes a considerable number of factors into consideration ,which include the emphasis of innovation, the updating of knowledge and the level of difficulty as well as the scoring, the qualified rate and burden of assignment. Apparently,it is how to make the best courses for college students that is what the author intends to convey to us.
It is not uncommon to find that with the development of society and economy, the competition is becoming increasingly intense and the updating of knowledge is getting quicker and quicker.Though some courses are easy to learn and get high scores,it may be out of date.In addition ,it has been universally acknowledged that the awareness of innovation will not only be beneficial to our personal growth and success but also contribute to the development and progress of society and economy ,which is the most essential qualification that anyone who wants
to achieve success should possess.Consequently ,the courses stressing innovation should be chosen.Furthermore, the way to success is full of obstacles and hardships. Anyone who is eager to get successful must realize that there is no shortcut to success at all because all achievements come from laborious trial and effort. Accordingly ,young students are supposed to choose some courses with great difficulties to improve their abilities.
After what we have discussed above,we can reasonably come to the conclusion that whatever the prospect is,however difficult the situation is,we ,young students ,should have the courage to face difficulties ,be willing to absorb new knowledge and cultivate the consciousness of innovation.I am strongly convinced that only by doing so,can our promising future be guaranteed.

A gift of money is generous and welcomed at our school. There are many tings that my school could use. To decide, one must consider the amount of the gift and understand that it is a one-time ting. Keeping this in mind, I think that my school could most benefit form new classroom fixtures.
If you looked at our school, you would agree that nearly all of the classrooms could use new desks, chairs, chalkboards, bookshelves and cabinets. Our school is old and the people who live here arent very wealthy. New equipment would provide students with the tools that they need to learn. It is hard to write papers if there arent enough desks and chairs. It is hard to learn when the blackboards are so old that they cant be erased properly. It is also difficult to organize school supplies without proper bookshelves and cabinets.
Another plus that new equipment would provide is that it would make the school more attractive to the community. It is hard for a community to be proud of a school that is falling apart. If the community felt that out school was important, perhaps others would give more money in the future. That would allow us to further improve our school. In addition, maybe community members would feel encouraged to come and help out in the school. That would make it even better.
Students would be happier with new equipment. It would make them want to come to school and learn. There would be fewer dropouts. By continuing in their education, these students will be able to better contribute to our community in the future—perhaps even becoming further schoolteachers.
While there are many things that can be purchased with a gift of money at our school, I believe that new equipment is the best choice. New equipment would improve the learning environment, the communitys attitude, and the students feelings about their school.

Bacteria are etremely small living things. while we measure our own sizes in inches or centimeters, bacterial size is measured in microns. one micron is a thousandth of a millimeter: a pinhead is about a millimeter across. rod-shaped bacteria are usually from two to four microns long, while rounded ones are generally one micron in diameter. thus if you enlarged a rounded bacterium a thousand times, it would be just about the size of a pinhead. an adult human magnified by the same amount would be over a mile(1.6 kilometer) tall.
Even with an ordinary microscope, you must look closely to see bacteria. using a magnification of 100 times, one finds that bacteria are barely visible as tiny rods or dots. one cannot make out anything of their structure. using special stains, one can see that some bacteria have attached to them wavy-looking "hairs" called flagella. others have only one flagellum. the flagella rotate, pushing the bacteria through the water. many bacteria lack flagella and cannot move about by their own power, while others can glide along over surfaces by some little-understood mechanism.
From the bacteria point of view, the world is a very different place from what it is to humans. to a bacterium water is as thick as molasses is to us. bacteria are so small that they are influenced by the movements of the chemical molecules around them. bacteria under the microscope, even those with no flagella, often bounce about in the water. this is because they collide with the watery molecules and are pushed this way and that. molecules move so rapidly that within a tenth of a second the molecules around a bacteria have all been replaced by new ones; even bacteria without flagella are thus constantly eposed to a changing environment.

Human Activity and the Earth
There is no doubt that human activity has an effect on the planet. We see the evidence of mankinds endeavors all around us. While some of mans accomplishments, such as the building of transportation systems and the consistent supply of potable water, have made Earth a better place for people to live, they have not come without cost. Overall, it seems that human activity harms the Earth more than it benefits it.
For example, the transportation systems that benefit mankind also create pollution and use up valuable energy resources. While we cannot do without transportation these days, we cannot ignore the fact that it has an adverse effect on the planet. Furthermore, those advances that benefit people do not benefit al the life on Earth.
Deforestation endangers many animals, and mankinds great thirst for water and other resources leads to the extinction of many plant forms. In addition, accomplishments such as the supply of potable water to a community are only response to problems that mankind created in the past. It was man that made the water unfit to drink in the first place.
Finally, the damage that human activity causes will eventually have a negative effect on people.
They will also suffer the effects of pollution and diminishing natural resources.
In conclusion, it seems apparent that man’s activity benefits primarily himself, not the Earth.
Moreover, those benefits are only short—term advantages, and man will also suffer the negative effects of his activity in the future. The Earth does not have an inexhaustible supply of resources,so every effort should be made to conserve resources and limit the impact of human activity on the planet.

Book Knowledge vs. Experience
Knowledge can be acquired from many sources. These include books, teachers and practical experience, and each has its own advantages. The knowledge we gain from books and formal education enables us to learn about things that we have no opportunity to experience in daily life. We can study all the places in the world and learn from people we will never meet in our lifetime, just by reading about them in books. We can also develop our analytical skills and learn how to view and interpret the world around us in different ways. Furthermore, we can learn from the past by reading books.
In this way, we wont repeat the mistakes of others and can build on their achievements.
Practical experience, on the other hand, can give us more useful knowledge. It is said that one learns best by doing, and I believe that this is true, whether one is successful or not.
In fact, I think making mistakes is the best way to learn. Moreover, if one wants to make new advances, it is necessary to act. Innovations do not come about through reading but through experimentation. Finally, one can apply the skills and insights gained through the study of books to practical experience, making an already meaningful experience more meaningful. However, unless it is applied to real experiences, book knowledge remains theoretical and, in the end, is useless. That is why I believe that knowledge gained from practical experience is more important than that acquired from books.

If I were to leave my home for a year, there is one thing I definitely would take with me: my cellphone. With my cell phone, I could call my friends or family if I ever was lonely, needed advice,or just wanted to talk.
If I were away from home for a year, I would be very lonely, especially in the beginning before Imade friends. If I could call my mother and father, I would hear their familiar voices and I wouldnot feel so lonely. Hearing my friends’ voices would also help me overcome my sadness.
I’ve never been on my own so there are many things I am not familiar with. I’ve never opened abank account, got a driver’s license, or made my own food. If I had to cook chicken orsomething, I could call up my mother and she could tell me how to make dinner.
Sometimes, I may just want to talk in my own language. With my cell phone, I could call myfriends and tell them about my new life. This would make them jealous of me. I would call thema lot so they could hear all the wonderful things I am doing.
For me a cell phone is a necessity. I would need it anytime I was lonely, anytime I needed to dosomething I didn’t know how to do, and anytime I just wanted to talk. Of course, the phone billwill be sent to my parents.

For over a decade, the craze of Chinese college graduates taking qualifying examinations to become civil servants has remained unabated. An important proportion of graduates view civil service as their top priority in job selection and they spare no efforts in preparing for those examinations, sometimes years before their graduation.
To some extent, this craze is a modern revival of the ancient notion that “those who excel in academics end up in officialdom.” In the present-day China, however, there are complicated reasons underlying this phenomenon. The jobs in sectors other than civil service are insecure and unstable, and employees have to work under greater stress faced with growing competitions in the workplace and the industry.
Some government departments are related to monopolized industries and civil servants can enjoy unusually high salaries and welfare benefits. Finally, government officials are usually regarded as occupying the highest rung of the social hierarchy and a student who succeeds in becoming government official is considered the pride of the family, adding prestige and glory to the entire clan.
For all the apparent attractions of the officialdom, the craze of entering the civil service is a distorted one. In the United States, truly ambitious students enter the industry instead of civil departments, where they apply their individual initiative to achieve personal success. It has already been pointed out that, with so many best minds of the nation fighting their way into the civil sectors, the consequences are catastrophic.
The civil servants system, with its inherent bureaucracy and rigid rules, would inevitably turn the otherwise energetic and aggressive young people into docile followers of their superiors’ instructions and dutiful but mediocre implementers of executive orders. This will considerably undermine the vitality of a whole generation and the competitiveness of the entire country in the international arena. All forms of craze are accompanied by elements of irrationality and abnormality and, the sooner this craze vanishes, the better.

The Media and Famous People
In almost every form of media, including television, newspapers and magazines, a great deal of attention is paid to the personal lives of celebrities. It seems that the public cannot get enough of this kind of news. However, I believe that the media have a responsibility to present a balanced view of the world, as well as respect the lives of public figures. Therefore, I believe that the media pay too much attention to the personal lives of famous people.
For people who are fascinated with the lives of public figures there are some forms of media devoted exclusively to this topic. They can satisfy their curiosity by buying fan magazines and watching TV shows devoted to entertainment news. The general media should present all types of information because people have different interests.
Furthermore, the practice of dwelling on the private lives of celebrities can lead people to pay more attention to these matters than they otherwise would. Perhaps most importantly, the media should respect the privacy of every individual, including public figures. They may have chosen to be in the public eye, but that does not give the public the right to know everything about them.
Moreover, many stories about celebrities are untrue; they are only gossip reported to increase sales of magazines and other media. They are unfair to the famous and mislead the public.
For all of these reasons, I believe that the media should pay more attention to matters other than the private lives of public figures. In this way, they can appeal to a wider audience and encourage people to develop other interests. In my opinion, the media currently pay too much attention to the private lives of public figures.

As is portrayed in the picture, a boiling hotpot contains various forms of both domestic and alien cultures. The hodgepodge could be categorized as a mixture of literature, moral values and performing arts. It reveals to us that our modern culture is netplicated and diverse.
I cannot help relating this picture to reality and wondering why this happened in reality. For one thing, the globalization has made it possible that the cultures from all over the world can meet and mix together and we can enjoy the benefits of alien cultures without going abroad. For another, the harmonious coexistence between the traditions and modern cultures gives us a rich identity and spiritual wealth.
What is right attitude we should take toward the phenomenon? First of all, we should get lost in face of the diverse cultures and values. We must remember we must preserve our own national and local cultures in which we take root. Secondly, in the mixture of cultures and values we must learn to distinguish the good from the harmful. We should absorb the nutritious good cultures and values but at the same time we must defend ourselves against the danger of being polluted by the bad cultures and values.

Many people appreciate the conveniences of the city. The city offers a wide choice of jobs for adults and schools for children. It also provides plenty of facilities for culture, entertainment and recreationrestaurants, department, stores, cinemas, and so on. Besides, transportation is usually well developed in the city, with a variety of modes of travel, including buses, trains and subways.
In the country, on the other hand, one can enjoy the advantages of fresh air and food, and a more relaxed life style. Housing is usually spacious and inexpensive in the country. And, as for recreation, what could be more relaxing than a stroll down a country lane amid beautiful scenery? However there are advantages to living in either the city or the country. City air tends to be polluted, and the streets are always crowded and noisy. In the country, on the other hand, the lack of stimulating activities can make a person feel bored and isolated.
All in all, I would say that living in the city is best, for the convenience the city offers in terms of education and work; after all, one can always spend vacations in the countryand get the best of both.

The cartoon presents the Earth with a personified human face that seems quite unhappy. A examination of the picture immediately reveals that the source of its mood is the air pollution resulting from a huge number of automobiles spread around its surface.
The cartoon, no doubt, aims at alarming humans of the heavy load we have exerted on Earth by our insatiable production and usage of automobiles. However, the majority of people merely indulge in the celebration of the convenience brought by cars, while forgetting or simply neglecting their harmful impact on the atmosphere. Admittedly, there are various factors contributing to the current worldwide air pollution, but it is undeniable that the exhaust from automobiles is categorized as one of the major elements.
I would like to make the following proposals to solve this problem: firstly, we should apply the most cutting-edge technologies in order to adopt new forms of energy as substitutes for fossil fuels. It should also be guaranteed that the clean energy be inexpensive so that it can be widely accepted. Besides, there should be attempts to develop possible transportation means, so that citizens can be diverted from dependence on cars. In short, it is humans‘ responsibility to resume clean air for Earth.

From the picture above,we can see a spical "hotpot",which contains many unique ingredients, stand for "LAO SHE","KONG FU","Decompostion" and some things to that effect. At the bottom of the picture,a sentence stands there extremely prominent, which can be brielf interpreted by this way:culture "hotpot" is not only good tasting but also strongly good for one`s health.
A bit exggerating picture is,however, through careful observation,we may discover that behind this strange senario, what the cartoonist intends to show us is extremely obvious:the significance of integration between Chinese culture and other countries` culture.
With the implementation of the China`s reform and opening up,an emerging tendency is that more and more foriegners are getting fascinated with our Chinese culture. They come to China to learn Chinese language, taste delicious Chinese foods, make friends with Chinese people, and etc.All these make them pretty comfortable and agreeable. At the same time, however, this phenomenon also stirred a heated dated in our society,so,how to render the other countries` culture be more compatible with our Chinese culture has caused wide public concern.
As far as I am concerned, before giving my opinion I think we should take closely look at the culture`s function widely.Policymakers should be more aware of that culture integration not only benefits to our making a further development but exerts a great contribution to the world peace.

The Effects of Technology on Learning
The technological advances of the last few years have been amazing. Never before have students had such a wide variety of resources to help them in their studies. Those who can take advantage of these resources have the opportunity to learn about more subjects and to acquire more in—depth knowledge. In my opinion, students can indeed learn more and learn more quickly with the help of modern technology.
The piece of technology most important as a learning tool must be the computer. Paired with the Internet, it allows students to research topics more quickly and thoroughly and to write up their findings more rapidly as well. Furthermore, advances in many fields are being made so fast these days that it is impossible four textbooks to keep up. Technology allows students to keep abreast of the latest developments. Also, it cannot be denied that many students enjoy using such resources in their studies. Because of this, they are more likely to pursue subjects in greater depth.
For all these reasons, I believe that technology is of great benefit to todays students. Of course, it is still possible to learn without the aid of such devices, but I believe that those students who are fortunate enough to have access to technological resources should take every advantage of them.
Bacteria are extremely small organisms. When we measure our own size in inches or centimeters, the size of bacteria is measured in micrometers. One micrometer is one thousandth of a millimeter: the diameter of the needle is about one millimeter.
The length of rod-shaped bacteria is usually 2-4 micrometers, while the diameter of circular bacteria is usually 1 micrometer. Therefore, if you magnify a circular bacterium a thousand times, it will only be the size of a needle. If an adult is enlarged to the same size, their height will exceed one mile (1.6 kilometers).
Even with a regular microscope, you must observe carefully to see bacteria. Using a magnification of 100 times, it was found that bacteria can hardly see tiny rod-shaped or punctate shapes. People cannot recognize their structure. By using special stains, some bacteria can be seen attached to their bodies, resembling wavy "hair" called flagella. The others only have one flagella. The flagella rotate, pushing bacteria through the water surface. Many bacteria lack flagella and cannot move around on their own, while others can glide on the surface through some little-known mechanisms.
From the perspective of bacteria, the world is completely different from humans. Water is as sticky to bacteria as molasses are to us. Bacteria are too small and are influenced by the movement of surrounding chemical molecules. Bacteria under the microscope, even those without flagella, often bounce in water. This is because they collide with water molecules and are pushed back and forth. The molecules move so fast that within one tenth of a second, the molecules around the bacteria are replaced by new ones; Therefore, even bacteria without flagella will constantly adapt to constantly changing environments.

Skiing is a popular activity among young people. It provides answers that young people generally seek. Skiers can enjoy the thrill of sliding down sparkling white slopes at astonishing speed. Usually, after instantly coloring, they must avoid trees, tree stumps, and rocks - or find themselves suddenly scattering in the snow. If their skills exceed the average level, they can perform thrilling jumps and jumps in the air, which will also bring joy to the audience.
Indeed, this behavior carries risks, but it is a risk that young people enjoy. In addition, skiing is beneficial for health. When skiers trek on mountain roads or ski on deep snowy slopes, it provides a eerie feeling and is usually very laborious. The best skiers know that they need strong muscles to successfully control their skis, so they practice to maintain their physical health. Another desirable feature is that no matter where skiers gather, they usually form friendships.
Friendship rapidly develops on slopes and in nearby shelters, where skiers can find food, warmth, and rest. Their daily experience and youthfulness easily attract these people together and make them happy companions.

Our college is located in the northern suburbs. But the transportation is convenient and the environment is pleasant. There is a small mountain behind the university campus. Not far from her. The campus is a big lake, and we often go swimming there on Sundays.
There are FIMR teaching buildings and five restaurants on campus. The classroom is big and bright. Each classroom is sufficient for 60 students to study inside. Behind the Bishops Building is the college library, where teachers and students are busy borrowing and returning books every day. I usually go there once a week to borrow and return books.
Our college life is rich and interesting. On the one hand, we have many experienced teachers, sufficient books, scientific instruments, and equipment to help us with our learning. On the other hand, we are encouraged to participate in many university activities, such as seminars, gatherings, lectures, sports events, factory visits, etc. Basketball and volleyball matches are held almost every week.
In short, studying in our college is a great honor, so students will remember their alma mater after graduation.

The picture presents a touching sight to us. Two handicapped men are walking quite quickly by binding their disabled legs together and holding fast to each other’s shoulders, with their crutches left behind. What respectable persons they are! They have surpassed their own physical deficiency and explored a smoother and easier way of advancing by drawing strength and support from each other. Obviously, what is highlighted in the picture is cooperation.
In modern times, cooperation has become an efficient and effective way to solve many problems. To begin with, through cooperation, we can heighten our strength so as to accomplish the things that are impossible to be done only by one person. We all have our own limitations and with the fast development of science and technology, we are facing a world that is more and more sophisticated.
Therefore, we often need to combine others’ abilities and resources to gain success. What’s more, cooperation is not the simple addition but fusion of all partners’ strength. Making use of different members’ strong points, offsetting the weaknesses, supporting mutually and sharing resources with each other, we can then attain to a capacity that is much stronger than the sum of all partners.

This picture is really thought provoking. As is vividly shown in the above picture, a book is lying above the grass and beautiful flowers. Beside it, there is a topic thatsays:“reading”. There is no denying that the picture implies that reading is of utmost importance to us.
Considering every aspect of it, we may attribute its significance to three factors. First of all, reading can broaden our horizon, widen our knowledge and eich our experience. Besides, reading is to success what water is to a fish. It can put us in a favorable position in the job market. Last but not least, if all of us are willing to read more and extensively, our society will be more progressive and prosperous.
From what has been discussed above, we may safely draw a conclusion that reading is indispensable in our daily life. Therefore, the mass media, such as television, Internet and radio, should try best to propaganda and advocate it. As for ourselves, we should take practical actions to enhance our awareness of reading. Then, we have every reason to be convinced that we can have a bright future and a beautiful world.

Keep the square clean and tidy on Sunday, and there are also dozens of floats parading on Changan Avenue during the National Day holiday on Tian an men Square. Thousands of people strolled through the narrow alleys between the fragmented floats in the square, busy taking photos.
Not far from the noisy crowd, yellow leaves casually fell from the locust trees in the lane, signaling the first signal of the upcoming autumn. But even if all the leaves fall off, they still cannot cover the brown and black spots on the white stones on this huge square.
Since the square was renovated and reopened a few months ago to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China, chewing gum, waste oil, or even more severe stains have been a headache for city cleaners. Few renovation project planners may have anticipated this disappointing outcome. At first, they just wanted to give this city face. This square is indeed impeccable in its new design: the white terrazzo surface not only looks clean, but it is also made of materials that help prevent slipping. However, over time, virtue has turned into evil: the surface attracts and highlights dirt. Therefore, this most eye-catching website in China has to be paraded in public every day in a humiliating state, which is a form of shame.
Although tourists who litter should bear most of the responsibility, renovation designers should also learn a lesson: incorporate hygiene and maintenance issues in the square into their considerations.

Speaking of private cars, it goes without saying that they have brought us obvious advantages. People generally believe that private cars have various benefits. Firstly, they are very convenient, and we can drive them to any place at any time; Secondly (on the other hand), with private cars, our lives will be better and work efficiency will improve; More importantly, owning a car symbolizes that you are a successful person in the professional world; Last but not least, therefore, private cars have significant importance in our lives.
Just as a coin has two sides/opposite sides, the drawbacks caused by... cannot be ignored. The defects of private cars mainly manifest in the following aspects: on the one hand, the increase in private cars leads to environmental degradation and noise pollution; On the other hand, traffic accidents are largely attributed to the increase in private cars; In addition, private cars have caused a serious energy crisis due to their consumption of a large amount of oil.
My attitude towards this is that I prefer the positive effects/advantages brought by private cars over the negative effects/disadvantages. I have at least two basic reasons to support my point of view. Firstly, my idea is that more private cars will contribute to the development of Chinas automotive industry and national economy. Meanwhile, if strict measures are taken to avoid the adverse effects of cars, we may have a brighter future. Thats why I agree with the idea mentioned in the first paragraph.

To Respect the Old and Love the Young
How impressive the set of pictures are! In the first picture, the mother takes the daughter by the hand, while after thirty years the daughter hold her mother’s hand which is depicted in the second picture.
The meaning conveyed in the two pictures reveals that to respect the old and love the young is the traditional virtue and should be passed on from one generation to another. In real life, our parents not only give us life but do much in bringing us up. As the time goes on, they grow so physically weak that they no longer have the power to support themselves.
So it is human nature for us to take our responsibility of taking care of them when they are old. Meanwhile, the virtue of willing to support the graying parents should be educated among Chinese people, no matter how young they are. It is necessary to drill the idea to the young all the time, so that they can better respect the older in future.
With love for the young, our society will be full of sunshine; with respect for the old, our country will be harmony and prosperous.

The bar chart clearly indicates the turnover of online shopping and its growth rate in China from 2001 to 2008. During that period, there was a dramatic increase from 0.6 billion to 125 billion in its turnover. Meanwhile, the growth rate decreased from 200% to 110.4% at the same time.
Why dose this phenomenon take placeThere are generally three factors accounting for it. First and foremost, due to the fast economic and social development, people enjoy a sharp improvement in their living standards. Accordingly, they can afford to buy computers and mobile phones: the common tools for shopping online. Besides, e-shopping is extremely convenient and efficient. It is available 7/24 and this means people can buy what they want anytime without going out. Last but not least, the price of the goods online is much lower than those in the stores, which greatly caters to the consumer’s needs.
From what has been discussed above, we can predict that the turnover of online shopping will continue to increase at an alarming rate and it will give a huge boost to our national economy. However, we should also be aware of its drawbacks, such as fake commodities, personal financial security, illegal ads and so on. Thereby, we should take a reasonable and scientific attitude towards it.

In the past it was not uncommon for a man to die at forty, having lived a full life. But now we consider a lifespan of forty years to be very short. It is not unusual for people to live into their eighties and nineties, and some even reach 100. Whats more, people are living long, healthy lives and are active well into their “golden years”.
Mankinds longevity is due mainly to advances in science and technology. Medical breakthroughs have eradicated many fatal diseases that were once common. Perhaps more importantly, better general health means that people are less likely to contract infections in the first place. Better health also helps people prevent slowly debilitating conditions, such as heart disease, which can take their lives at an early age. And as civilization has advanced, our living environment and sources of food have become more sanitary.
Furthermore, work is now safer and not as taxing on the human body. We do not wear out after just a few years of very hard work. There are many reasons why people are now living longer than ever before. But what is more important is that they are living better as they live longer. It is my opinion that we have scientific and technological development to thank for this progress.
The Earth we rely on for survival was once a beautiful home, but due to the pollution caused by humans for a long time, it has caused a series of huge damage to the ecological environment of the Earth. The water level that we rely on for survival has also reached the warning line. The mother river is threatened by death, and the east-west dams are also drying up. If we continue to waste water like this, the last drop of water in Hami will be everyones tears.
The dam in my hometown used to be green. In spring, the weeping willows in the dam grew tender buds, and the grass on the ground popped out of the soil. The small river, which had been frozen by ice and snow for a whole winter, broke the tranquility. Slowly, under the impact of the river, the small river rushed forward again, and the fish in the river swam freely in the water like before. Looking at the leaves of the willows, they had formed a shape and stood upright in the center of the dam.
And now it has become a "garbage dump", with originally wide and clear water rushing in the small river; But now it has become turbid and calm like "sick", and finally "in danger" has turned into a pool of black water accompanied by sludge. They were originally covered in flowers and plants, but now, after years of human waste disposal, burying garbage, and burning garbage, they have become the garbage scene they are today.
The East Tianshan Mountains are well-known in Xinjiang, while there is no snow in the south. In my hometown, every winter, you can see crystal clear hexagonal crystals slowly falling from the sky. The bright snowflakes are like the words of nature, and the earth is singing the symphony of high destiny. The lyrics are about struggle and indomitable hometown customs. Snow is the bard of my hometown, singing the long history of my hometown with loneliness and wandering at the top of the Tianshan Mountains, The enchanting cedar stands tall forever, like an immortal guardian, silently watching the rapid changes in its hometown.
But now, wild camels, yellow sheep, and other animals are being slaughtered in large numbers, water sources are being artificially polluted, mountains and forests are being extensively cut down, grasslands are being polluted one after another, and the snow line on the Tianshan Mountains is gradually rising. In the future, the Tianshan Mountains will be a sparsely populated and boundless desert, with scorching rocks and lifeless peaks exposed to the sun. The Tianshan Mountains are crying and grieving.
Dont slaughter animals again, let the sound of birds and the fragrance of flowers reappear here; Dont cut down trees again, let this place be green forever; Dont pollute the water source again, make this place clear as before; We must protect the environment, not let our hometown cry, work together for the balance of the ecological environment, for the beauty of our hometown, and for the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature! Lets join hands and build our hometown into a beautiful and truly fragrant oasis.
Earth, this water blue planet world draped in a white veil, is the only home that we humans rely on for survival. But as humans, we have been extensively damaging the ecological environment of the Earth for the sake of resource development.
Water is the milk of Mother Earth, the source of life, and a good friend of humans and animals... Everywhere in the world, there is water, streams, rivers, rivers, seawater, the vast Yangtze River, the rippling Baotu Spring, the colorful East China Sea, and so on. However, many clear and magnificent waters no longer exist. Why? Because of human destruction of nature! Water is one of the victims. According to statistics, all small factories in a factory area can discharge approximately 800-1000 tons of wastewater per day, which is a surprising number. Many sewage pipes are connected to streams and rivers, and sewage is directly discharged into clear rivers through these pipes. The harmful substances in the wastewater and the chemical synthesis elements of humans can greatly harm the fish in the water, causing them to be poisoned or even die! At the same time, humans throw foul smelling garbage into rivers, lakes, and seas everywhere. Many marine creatures treat garbage bags as delicious food, but once they swallow plastic bags, their esophagus will be blocked, making them unable to eat and ultimately having to accept the fate of passing away.
Air is an essential element in human life. Without air, there would be no humans, no animals or plants in the world. But now, the air is being eroded and polluted bit by bit. Who is the main culprit? Yes, its human. Fire, industry, transportation, and oil smoke emissions all pollute the fresh and sweet air, turning it into harmful air. If humans inhale harmful air into their bodies, it can cause various diseases. And it will also affect the animals, so we humans can only suffer on our own.
So, lets call on all humanity to protect the ecological environment! Human beings belong to nature, but nature does not belong to humans. Nature is the true and rightful ruler of this world. We cannot harm nature. Water, we must protect it, love it, and never let a drop of sewage flow into the once poetic, clean and pure river. We must not let animals who rely on water as their home be disturbed. We also need to save water and not let water alone cry silently. Air, we also need to cherish it. Take care of it like you treat your own child, the air will be destroyed, and humanity will eventually come to an end. Lets stop polluting the air, protect it, purify it, and use the technology that makes humans proud now to govern it! Let nature and technology become the kings of the world at the same time, and make Earth the most beautiful planet in the universe!
Protecting the environment, starting from every drop around us.

It calls on every person on Earth to cherish their living environment and benefit future generations. Environmental protection starts from around us, from the hours around us!
When I was a child, I often saw blue skies and white clouds, filled with stars. When I was a child, the lake water was clear and transparent, with green trees providing shade. When I was a child, my clothes could be cleaned with just a wooden stick. When I was a child, I could eat all kinds of grains and grains with a delicious taste, and my body could still thrive.
When I was a child, I could smell the pungent smell of soil after the rain in the countryside. When I was a child, the weather was so regular, warm in winter and cool in summer. I miss my childhood so much, I miss that pure living environment so much.
But now everything has changed, and we must pay attention to the necessity of environmental protection. It is related to our living environment and whether our descendants can have a better living environment.
Now we have a clearer understanding of the significance of environmental protection, which is to better protect our planet from wanton destruction and uncontrolled use.
Every plant and tree in nature is closely related to us, and their destruction can also affect our human health and the changes in our living environment. Human beings should learn to coexist harmoniously with living beings, rather than arbitrarily logging and bullying them.
The resources of nature are not continuous, and we cannot overdevelop, overgraze, or open up wastelands. We must use them in moderation. In recent decades, the reduction of forest area in tropical countries has been very serious. At the current rate of forest area reduction, in 40 years, some Southeast Asian countries will never see a tree again.
Due to urbanization, agricultural development, deforestation, and environmental pollution, natural areas have become increasingly small, leading to the extinction of species. The extinction of species is highly likely to cause epidemics. Freshwater resources are also under threat, and water resources are becoming increasingly scarce. Due to overfishing, the fishery resources in the ocean are decreasing at a terrifying rate.
If we dont work together to protect the environment, we may lose the Earth we rely on for survival in a few years. Before its too late, lets start with our small things and try our best to do things within our capabilities, so that our children and descendants can also see the same blue sky and white clouds, so that they can also see such green mountains and waters! Everyone has a responsibility to protect the environment. We only have this kind of Earth. If we dont have this Earth in a few years, where can we go in the vast interstellar space? As long as we can start from small things, work together to protect our home, and let our planet, which we live on, come back to life. Only then can we survive here and live up to our future generations!
While utilizing the natural resources on Earth, humans also discharge a large amount of waste, causing serious damage to the ecological environment and turning the Earth into a "garbage ball". What should we do? People began to reflect.
In order to protect the Earth we rely on for survival and make our homes more beautiful, people must do this: sort and recycle garbage.
Many of the waste in our lives can be utilized as resources in other settings. Garbage classification and recycling can turn waste into treasure. The recycling and utilization of waste paper, plastic, glass, and metal can all become valuable resources, reduce environmental pollution, and alleviate the pressure of garbage treatment. For example, white garbage - foam and plastic bags can become oil after treatment; Waste batteries can extract valuable metals; Waste paper can be used to produce recycled paper; Waste glass can be used to remanufacture glass; Fruit peels, vegetable residues, etc. can be used to make good organic fertilizers
In order to make Guangzhou more beautiful, garbage sorting requires everyone to participate together. But now many citizens are not very familiar with what garbage classification is, why it is necessary, and what benefits garbage classification has. I suggest that the government and various social forces must also strengthen their publicity and education efforts, such as distributing a booklet on garbage classification to each household, which lists the detailed classification of garbage. For example, waste paper, plastic, glass, metal, etc. are recyclable waste; Fruit peels, vegetable residues, etc. are organic waste; Waste batteries, lamps, etc. are hazardous waste. In this way, not only can it enhance the environmental awareness of citizens, but it can also make it clear to everyone how to classify garbage at a glance. In addition, one can also enter the community for publicity and education, implement garbage classification in households, and establish household records related to garbage classification; Organize community garbage classification training; Organize citizens to visit "Garbage and Environment Exhibition", garbage sorting stations and landfills, and experience firsthand the harm that garbage causes to the environment; Organize more environmental volunteers to the community to promote garbage classification, publish a series of advertising posters on garbage classification, and hold garbage classification exhibitions; Through primary and secondary education, let children drive families; Organize media to track and report on units and communities that have done well in garbage classification, and provide publicity and encouragement to families and individuals who have done well in garbage classification; At the same time, it is also possible to consider using incentive mechanisms to encourage citizens to carry out garbage sorting. For example, the German government has adopted methods such as giving garbage bags to citizens to stimulate and ensure peoples initiative in garbage classification.
If everyone can have more environmental awareness when throwing garbage, then the whole society can be less troubled by garbage. Lets all take action and participate in the activity of garbage sorting and recycling!
Life becomes wonderful because of you. To make life more exciting, we must cherish it. We should advocate cherishing life and building civilization. Make our city more beautiful.
My hometown is a Class A open city located in Anshun City, Guizhou Province.
This place has rich historical and cultural heritage, with colorful and diverse urban buildings. It is the birthplace of Qianzhong culture, leaving behind many characteristics of local ethnic culture. However, in recent years, due to peoples poor environmental awareness, it has caused a large amount of environmental pollution. There is also extensive deforestation by humans, leading to the occurrence of mudslides, massive discharge of sewage and exhaust gases, and serious damage to various ecological environments.
Anshun also includes Puding County, Xixiu District, Pingba County, Ziyun Miao and Buyi Autonomous County, Zhenning Buyi and Miao Autonomous County, and Guanling Buyi and Miao Autonomous County. But there are still some issues with the environment in these places.
For example, the Chuancheng River in Zhenning, with its shallow and dark water, makes people feel an inexplicable sadness lurking deep in their hearts. Chuancheng River, Chuancheng River. Over the years, you have raised generations of children in Zhenning. You silently contribute everything to your life. Without you, peoples lives would be like without sunshine: without you, people would be like babies leaving their mothers. Are you flowing towards the sea or the yellow soil day by day? In the past, regardless of spring, summer, autumn, or winter, there were always people washing clothes, washing faces, and playing by the river. But now that everything is gone, where are you flowing day by day? You are distressed that you cant hear the childrens laughter. No one comes here to play anymore, and now this place is lifeless
The great power bestowed upon people by nature has disappeared like this! I shouted loudly, "Who, who destroyed this great power!"
Our living environment is very poor now, and we need everyone to work together to improve it. Lets protect this beautiful world together! As an ordinary middle school student now, one should take some measures to protect the environment. For example, do not spit everywhere, do not litter the fruit peel, and do not discharge sewage. In short, we should start with small things and the small things around us. I think if everyone consciously protects the environment, wont the city we live in and the home we rely on for survival become better? Protecting the environment is also a symbol of the 2008 Green Olympics. Lets unite and work together to protect the environment, and become a small environmental advocate. Everyone contributes to the "Green Olympics" to the best of their ability. One sentence: "It is everyones responsibility to protect the environment, cherish life, and protect the environment."
Lets work together and believe that in the near future, we can see a city full of greenery!
Nowadays, "environmental protection" seems to have become a very popular topic. Whether in cities or rural areas, we can see various warning signs calling for people to protect the environment; There are countless columns, reports, and advertisements on this topic on television and newspapers; With just a click on this topic on the internet, there is a lot of response... People seem to be in favor of protecting the environment and giving the earth a fresh face, but environmental protection cannot be achieved with just a word or action.
"Protecting the environment, starting from me" is a well-known classic environmental term, but how to "start from me"? Perhaps at the beginning, we may adhere to ourselves for the sake of a better home, but when people around us do not do so and instead mock our own "immaturity", and it seems difficult for us to immediately see that because of our good behavior, the surrounding environment becomes beautiful and moving, a persons "persevering" heart begins to be confused, and there is a voice questioning in their heart: is it useful? As this idea grows, how many people still dont go back to their old "habits"? Yes, its "habit".
People have become accustomed to using fast cars instead of walking, using lightweight and convenient plastic shopping bags instead of cloth bags, and using clean and inexpensive disposable tableware to eliminate the hassle of washing after meals... We have become accustomed to the various conveniences and benefits that modern life brings us, and we are no longer willing to return to the life of "working at sunrise and resting at sunset"; We are accustomed to the flickering neon lights at night, forgetting the peaceful moonlight in the lotus pond under the moon... These complex and intertwined modern "convenient" lifestyles have also brought great troubles to the environment.
Of course, there are also many people who are willing to devote themselves to the cause of environmental protection, such as Zhang Zhengxiang, who is chilling, lonely, and stubborn, and known as the "madman" in peoples eyes. Faced with the greedy, ignorant, and brutal environmental disruptors of Dianchi Lake, he bravely tied his life and the fate of Dianchi Lake tightly together, and with his indomitable persistence, he closed down 33 large and medium-sized mining, quarrying, and soil collection points in the Dianchi Nature Reserve.
And Wang Chengji, a farmer with only elementary school education, has transformed 3700 acres of barren mountains into a famous willow ditch with trees and water, thanks to his perseverance, indestructible courage, and perseverance. In our lives, there are still many people who want to do so, but environmental protection is definitely not a matter of two people, it is the responsibility of all of us humans. Perhaps we may not achieve the results of Zhang Zhengxiang and Wang Chengji, but as long as each of us takes good care of the environment, I believe that the earth will become increasingly pure and beautiful.
