1.“on and off”又作“off and on”，意思是“斷斷續(xù)續(xù)地，間歇地”，例如：It rained on and off for the whole afternoon(雨斷斷續(xù)續(xù)地下了一下午。)
2.“it seem like/as if/as though...”表示“看上去好像…”，例如：It seemed as if the end of the world had come.(那時看上去好像世界末日到來了一樣。)

美國護士等級劃分
美國護士主要分為三個等級，由上而下分別是Registered Nurse、Licensed Practical Nurse(加州稱為Licensed Vocational Nurse)和Certified Nursing Assistant。
Registered Nurse - RN(注冊護士)
RN是護理人員施行護理全過程的掌控者，從接受病人開始，到利用各種方法搜集病人的主、客觀資料，做初步的護理評估。同時就搜集的資料做護理分析，并提出正確的護理診斷和適當?shù)淖o理計劃。美
國的醫(yī)院大多為開放醫(yī)院制，醫(yī)生一般都在醫(yī)院外開設診所，大部分時間內并不在醫(yī)院內，所有病人的問題都必須由RN立刻做出判斷或與主治醫(yī)生討論后解決。因此RN必須具備獨立的判斷能力，能在不
同臨床情況下作出安全正確的決定。
RN是專業(yè)人員，無論在美國的任何一州都必須通過執(zhí)照考試，取得該州的執(zhí)照后，才能在該州工作。
Licensed Practical Nurse ( Licensed Vocational Nurse ) - LPN (LVN)(職業(yè)護士)
其職責是在RN的監(jiān)督及指導下，掌握基本的護理知識和技術，以執(zhí)行并完成由RN制定的護理計劃。所以其職責較俯重于護理技術方面，比如傷口護理、無菌技術、給藥打針等。
LPN/LVN和RN-樣，也必須通過護士執(zhí)照考試，取得所在州執(zhí)照后，才能在該州工作。
Certified Nursing Assistant - CAN(助理護士)
又稱為Nurse Aide，其工作偏重于病人的個人起居和衛(wèi)生護理，例如擦澡、換床單、翻身、量體溫等。助理護士不能給藥、打針，也不能!從事任何的無菌技術。
CAN被視為一般勞工，不需要通過執(zhí)照考試，只要通過一個簡單的護理技術考試，取得一張證書即可工作。
