在維也納，莫扎特的音樂成就是令人驚嘆的，他曾這樣來描述他的音樂創(chuàng)作：“無論多長的作品都在我的腦中完成。我從記憶中取出早已儲存好的東西。因此，寫到紙上的速度就相當快了，因為一切都已完備，它在紙上的模樣跟我想象的幾乎毫無二致。所以在工作中我不怕被打擾，無論發(fā)生什么，我甚至能夠邊寫邊說話�！笨蓱z就是這樣一位天才，在他正當壯年的時候卻因為感染風寒而去世了，死時年僅35歲。在他生命的最后一天(1971年12月9日)，他仍在創(chuàng)作，可惜天嫉英才，莫扎特留下了他那未完成的《安魂曲》，而撒手人間，成為了音樂史上最大的遺憾之一。
盡管莫扎特的一生充滿坎坷和艱辛，但他的音樂始終給人帶來的是真正的純美。著名的音樂評論家羅曼·羅蘭為莫扎特作出了如下的評價：“他的音樂是生活的畫像，但那是美化了的生活。旋律盡管是精神的反映，但它務必取悅于精神，而不傷及肉體或損害聽覺。所以，在莫扎特那里，音樂是生活和諧的表達。不僅僅他的歌劇，而且他所有的作品都是如此。他的音樂，無論看起來如何，總是指向心靈而非智力，并且始終在表達情感或激情，但絕無令人不快或唐突的激情�！�
